Okay, who are you? And what's there for me anyway?

I'm a zoologist who likes to play with numbers 👩🏻‍🔬.

I learnt about statistics, data analysis and coding like many other students — in a more than slightly convoluted way. I was lucky enough to have some great teachers on my way, though, and maybe that saved me. I know how frustrating and confusing it can be. I know how useful and fun it can be. And it doesn't have to hurt.

Here, I want to create a safe space for knowledge exchange and building solid foundations. Especially for people who, like me, have a background in biology. If you are searching for math or computer science-heavy explanations with lots of fancy symbols, there are some great resources out there, but this may not be one of them. If, on the other hand, you want to learn the foundations of coding ( I work primarily in R, but I write about concepts universal across many languages) in a digestible manner and sometimes listen to me rambling on my research (birds involved 🐦‍⬛) and academia, that's a good place to start.

Please pick and choose all the bits you like, and leave the rest on the plate 🍒. Also, feel free to reach out to me on LinkedIn or wherever you can find me.

Do you have paper for that?

I graduated with a BSc in Zoology in the city that bid farewell to the Titanic. Shortly before finishing my degree, I found out that being a data science became the sexiest job of this century, so I ran to complete my master’s in Computational Methods in Ecology & Evolution at Imperial College London. I stayed in my research group, and currently, I am doing a PhD on how environmental factors shape the gut microbiome 🦠.

I’m also a tutor and a teaching assistant.

Why “DaRwinian lass”?

Well, technically speaking, it should be something along the “neo-daRwinian lass” lines, but we don't have to be so detailed.

I guess I'm just one of those people for whom nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution 🐈.

Okay, I’m in!
